Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements?
Parent and child must be residing in Cumberland County at the time of applying. Fort Bragg residents do not qualify. Only the parent or guardian may apply their child. Children must be four years old on or before August 31st of the school year.
How do I apply my child?
Parents/Guardians must navigate to the application website to complete the application. The application process includes demographic information for the child and documents to be uploaded in the system. Required documents are listed on the website.
Does applying guarantee placement?
No. Applying for Pre-K through the application website ensures that your child is considered for the program. Placement into the program is based on NC Title 1 Pre-K guidelines. No placement is guaranteed.
My child was placed on the waitlist. What next?
If your child is placed on the waitlist, we will notify you if your child is moved up to the accepted list or if there are additional openings elsewhere within CCS. Our partnering agencies, the Partnership for Children and Head Start, may also be in contact with you if they have openings in their programs. Please note, CCS does not release waitlist numbers to parents due to the nature of the Title 1 Pre-K placement requirements.
Who do I contact if I have further questions?
Please email our department hotline at prekapplications@ccs.k12.nc.us and we will be happy to answer your questions.
